Internal Fire Object Database
IFOD is a SPECTRUM compliant museum object management system developed in house for Internal Fire. Like many small independant museums, the cost of an off the shelf SPECTRUM compliant package was beyond us.We also needed something tailored to the working practices of the museum so IFOD came about.
IFOD is also being developed to help with several digitisation projects at the museum including the recently arrived Ailsa Craig archive.
Once development has finished in early 2009 the plan is to release under Open Source and provide a help/customisation service to any other museums that need a similar product.
IFOD GUIs exist on two platforms, Windows using Visual Basic and Solaris using MOTIF/XRT. The database used is MySQL and web content is generated using PHP.
