First Strowger Exchange Running

Internal Fire

First telephone exchange now passing calls.

The PABX3 Strowger telephone exchange donated by the Nene Valley Railway is now up and running.

The donation was organised by Derrick from Nene Valley and he spent the Bank Holiday weekend here getting her up and running again. Visitors can now use the exchange and see the call being set up. Next step will be to connect the exchange to the outside world via the Asterisk box that we have been testing for some time.

We eventually hope to connect all the museum exchanges to CNET and from there allow visitors to dial other museums with similar exchanges.

Thanks to the Nene Valley Railway for donating the exchange and to Derrick, Martin, Dan and Dave for the help in extracting her and getting her to the museum.

Thank god for that, it was becoming embarassing trying to get my contact to come down and get it running for you. Martin P

Its good to see it up and running I am assuming it is a linefinder exchange. I had plenty of practice with them cleaning oiling and dagging back in 1964-68 and repairing the rat trap fuses whenever the senior tech saw that you were idle. I note the neat cable lacing on the overhead runways
