Engineering Heritage Award presentation for the Pocket Power Station.

On Monday 21st of June, Prof. Isobel Pollock, the Heritage Chairman of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers presented an Engineering Heritage Award to the Bristol Proteus/Pocket Power Station. Ian Craighead, Head of Corporate Heritage at Rolls Royce received the award on behalf of Rolls-Royce.

A number of Friends of the Museum and a coach load from Bristol organised by John Elver were also present for the ceremony.

At around 12:30, the Mayor of Cardigan, Mair Morris, welcomed everyone to Wales.

Prof. Pollock then explained the objectives of the Engineering Heritage Awards before formally unveiling the plaque.

Ian Craighead then accepted the award on behalf of Rolls-Royce and all the Bristol and SWEB people involved in the original design. Dan Howden then thanked everyone on behalf of the Trustees and volunteers at the museum.

With the formalities over, the Proteus was fired up. The original plan had been to go for a dial-up from Bristol but in the end we used a mobile so that the announcements could be heard. She lit up immediately and ran smoothly, behaving perfectly for her special occasion.

With around 100 guests the new cafe area was still not big enough for lunch so a marquee had been erected and Emlyn cafe in Tanygroes had produced a wonderful buffet with all local produce - our thanks to them for an excellent spread. Also to all the girls who worked really hard to prepare the tent and get the food served.

Everyone attending received a small pack containing copies of the original Pocket Power Station sales literature along with a brief history of the Princetown station and a DVD of the engine running. All in all a very pleasant day.

Looking across what will be Halls 4 and 5 by the end of this year - we hope!

The new shop and cafe were working well, manned by Leon and Rhiannon for the day.

As usual, there is a list of people who made the event possible!

Our thanks to IMechE who helped with the buffet, Rolls-Royce for covering the printing costs of the brochures, Emlyn Cafe for the help with the tent and food and of course volunteers Andrea, Gina, Dan, Pete, David, Keith, Arthur and not forgetting Hazel who organised everything.

Special thanks to Richard and Rita from IMechE for the PR

More pics up shortly at PHOTOS
p.s.Thanks also to Jeremy Thompson and colleague who attended at short notice on behalf of Western Power - hope you got a photo!
