Lister CS Start-o-Matic Set Recovery

Another recent recovery to the museum is a 1950s 6hp Lister CS powered S-O-M set. The set was installed at a farm near Uffculme in Devon and provided power until 1964

The engine was found through Roland Craven who met us down there on the day of the recovery. By the time we arrived Roland had disconnected all the pipework, removed the exhaust and dragged out the cooling tanks.

Roland had also unbolted the bed ready for us to start shifting. The bed was easily lifted above the studs and onto rollers, barred down the block and then turned through 90 degrees and straight down the shed and out the door.
Outside, another 90 degree turn and straight up the ramps onto the trailer. Less than 2 hours from arrival we had the trailer packed, sheeted and were away

Back at the museum the following day, Keith lifted the head and reground both valves. Amazingly the pump was ok and with a new nozzle fitted to the injector the CS was running within a few hours of unloading.

The engine will placed in storage until installation in the new Museum Generator shed. This will contain the S-O-M set along with the current 10kva Tangye VCR2 standby set and a Widdop set due to arrive shortly.
