kind of engine related i suppose.

i am trying to restore a very old CAV diesel injector tester. It needs repainting and Iam trying to find a suitable original look paint.

the original finish is what i would described as a satin light metallic green in the "smooth" hammerite style. it was used an awful lot on 1950's plant and equipment and is a very distinctive colour. I have tried every modern hammered paint brand i can find but nobody has this colour in the right paint which shold not look like a hammered finish. the only one that comes close is hammerite mid green hammered.

those of you with old 50's and 60's plant and tools may well know this colour...any leads for a modern supplier of the same kind of paint ??

many thanks and happy new year to all.

I worked for the Lucas CAV injector factory for sixteen years and I thought they were blue.

My CAV injector tester is painted black, its the only paint on it.

Maybe they came in whatever colour was to hand.

Have you thought of engine paint? Austin/Morris/etc cars all had green engines at that time. The satin finish could just be a poor spray application. Perhaps they warmed the components to aid drying such that it stopped the paint flowing to a gloss.
