Not for me but a friend is thinking of bidding on the 3hp Ruston IP on Ebay.

As he has been out of engines for between 20-30 years he is not sure if it is worth that much, I think it all its money really just after others advice.

Also what are the rough dimensions of a 3hp IP minus water tank?

Cheers Steve

Which one? An item number would be helpful. Without seeing pics it is impossible to value. Size also depends on whether it has the electric flywheel.

This one.

I thought it was a bit on the heavy side for money, but I never looked at buying one, I could only compare it to AP’s, but did notice a 5hp IP for sale in SEM for £3250 in Feb 12, in nicer condition as well.

Oh and he bought it anyway.

Cheers Steve

Always remember the asking prices in SEM are not necessarily selling values. A lot of money IMHO for what it is, though IP's do seem to be coming up in value. It has potential to make a lovely engine. As ever, he was obviously happy spending that amount on that engine and my opinion is worth what was paid for it.

No doubt there will be several more on there at similar money next week...

Cheers,

Dan

Well there is a little story about why he wanted one.

When he worked for a Agricultural engineers (20+ years ago) he was out at a farm eating his lunch in the cab, he noticed a block building and seen pipes coming out, went over and had a look and there was a single flywheel Ruston inside, well he tried to buy it and the owner wouldn’t sell, and he forgot where the farm is... ever since he has lusted over one, now he has bought one...plus he’s got 5 or so left working, and wants something for his retirement!

Like he said, he could buy this one and be others coming up left right and centre or he would leave it and not see another, plus this one was handy and it wasnt a million miles away!

One good thing is I get a WX11 back  will see if I can get this left to me in his Will...

Edit, there was also a 7HP on ebay which was removed from sale, but was starting at £3800.

Cheers Steve

Well he left it there, was told before he bought it there was no frost damage etc, got up there and there had been, seller wouldn’t drop price despite the damage so left it there.

He is quite gutted really, but paying that price he didnt want the damage to repair.

Anyone know of a 3-5hp IP or OK going

Cheers Steve

Why do people say there is no damage when there obviously is ? and then to not budge on the asking price, don't blame Ross for not buying it, one will turn up for him one day, when least expected.
