Hi there

here is my Bradford 2.5hp, she has has been stripped of a nasty paint job, and will look nice and original once she gets a bit of surface rust, she has also had a new trolley and a new fuel tank, along with some other little jobs, however, one of the core plugs needs looking at as it appears to be leaking, I also need to sort out a decent breather, she also seems to be leaking oil out of one of main bearings but I probably have the oil up way too high, as the sight glass is missing, she starts and runs lovely, sorry for the poor photos.

Im quite pleased with how it turned out really, just need to sort out this coreplug now, can anyone recommend a supplier, and how do you remove the old one, or just drill it out and chisel the remains out

Do you have a picture of the core plug in question? If it is a standard steel type one, give it a good smack with a large punch right in the middle, this should push it in a bit and deform the sides enough for you to knock the sides inwards and then lever it out.

There are 2 types of core plug that I've come across, bucket type and saucer type. Removal is much the same in both cases, drill a hole in the middle and lever/chisel out the remains. Refitting procedure differs. The bucket type is just driven in with some sealant around the outside. The saucer is inserted with the dome outwards. When it's in place, tap the middle with a ball pein hammer to spread it. This should also be fitted with sealant around it.

Hope this helps.

John

ps, nice engine btw.

Mine sounds like the saucer type one, when you go to buy a new one I assume the size you want is the diameter of the hole?

should be getting a sight oiler for her soon as well, just need to sort out this damn oil leak now!
