Link to Ebay, look at the sellers other items, even states that engine was a runner before being stripped......

I can understand breaking a wreck for spares, but as you say, all the parts this guy is selling apparently came from a complete running engine - pure vandalism.

Sad aint it, I was speaking to a guy I bought two Teagles off, he said he would rather break a good engine, he had a Lister D and a Wolsely WD down there which were very sad looking, said he wasn't going to bother breaking them as they wouldn't make much, I gave him a few places to advertise them but haven't seen them come up, most likely gone to the heap!

Just checked his listings, Hes only up to about £80 with 1 day to go, 3 items have bids, so hes going to be stuck with loads of bits, Carbs going up high though.

Cheers Steve

the sad thing is you can make more money by breaking engines than selling them complete, I broke up a knackered WD2 last year, and couldnt believe how miuch some of the bits made

I'm thinking of bidding on the block, piston and head just to keep the bare bones together. It's not far from me so collection will be easily possible, i'm sure in time all the bit's to rebuild it will come avalable in time as long as the bare engine stays together. they'll need to be cheap though.

Cheers Gary..

As long as idiots who just cannot wait a bit are prepared to bid a carb to those heights it will continue. It seems that everybody deplores this pernicious practice - so where do the bidders come from ??

just a thought

If one broken engine turns five incomplete engines into rally exhibits, has the hobby lost or gained?

It's a tricky problem, but as long as people are buying the parts it will continue - we can only hope that other engines are completed.

Martin.

True but at what cost! and now someone else has one without - and so it goes on, and on.....
Those sort of prices then spread across the market and soon there will be a deafening whine that the young can't afford engines any more.
I guess its always been so and always will be.
