A good friend recovered this two cylinder Petter S-type?? engine from a abandoned mine where it was hooked onto a air compressor. The engine is however without it's pistons and connecting rods. It wiil be a big project but still worth while to see and hear this machine running again.

some of the details: Serial number 200151
Height 116cm
Cylinder diameter 16cm
Flywheel diameter 61cm
Flywheel face 18cm

Any information will be appreciated

thank you!!

I corresponded with the owner (then a Dr. J.E.N from memory) in 2006 and nothing has changed since I told him the records show it as a VS18 to Fraser Chalmers in Aug 1927. That means a twin 9hp S type. However the bore for an 8-10 is 6" and the stroke 5 3/4". I convert your 16cm to 6 1/4" so it is possibly the later type NL. Whatever the chances of finding a pair of pistons and rods are exceedingly small.

Sorry I can't be more help
Roland

Thank you for the response Roland.

I was not aware of the details allready sent to the owner.

He is a old school friend and engine enthusiast.

We were contemplating whether it would be possible and worh it to manufacture pistons and conecting rods to get this engine running again. I am not sure if it will be worth the effort but as a technical challenge sure worth thinking about.

For this reason I was hoping top get detail about the piston sizes, shape, weight and so on.

Regards, Louis

I may be able to help if you can resolve the apparent conflict in bore size. Are you sure it was not measured at the very top of the bore where there is a taper to facilitate ring entry?

regards
Roland

Roland,

That might well be the difference in bore size. I will enquire and report back . The engine is unfortunately 2 hour driving away from here so it will take a while to do this myself . Thanks for the advice.
