Trust you Nick!

The thing is a Steam Engine doesn't wash and iron your undies for you....

do you think I'm going wrong somewhere?

Sorry, still a smutty school-boy at heart!

Hot fog is something I don't really 'get' - especially the kettle on rails sort. Sure I'll stand and admire the big engines at Kew bridge, or marvel at the work that must have gone into the restoration of a traction engine, but it's always been IC (with a smattering of hot air) which has really floats my boat.

Hi everyone,
Steam washing. 1, find bucket and fill with water and add soap powder. 2, add clothing to be washed. 3, place under condensate drain and put drain pipe in water. 4, crack drain to admit steam to bucket. 5 leave to cook.
Regards
Harry

My washing machine has a steam cycle

Had a hot fog box around for a while, just not broken it out for about 10 years:

One my Grandfather made, which I brought back up with me:

And one that must be 100 year old or more, was given to my Grandfather when he was young by his Uncle and he had it when he was a boy, would be hell up if I took both...

Been admiring Ross’s Wagon for some time, and since I gave him a T300 he has been feeling bad for not giving me anything, so I had that!

Think its from around 1972/3

Oh and the share of Hot Fog my Grandfather had cost him £50....(as she is now pictured)

You will be ex-communicated at this rate Steve!

I dont think the middle engine could be quite 100 years old. Has quite a Mamod look about it and obviously commercially made. That logo pressed in the boiler end should be the clue to solve it.

As for personal tastes, I quite understand Nick. Some folk like Dogs, I prefer Cats we are all different. I just enjoy winding Mr P. up sometimes (or is it Martin winding me up?)

Dont know, was given to my Grandfather when he was 5, he was born 1922, his uncle Cecile had it when he was young, I think its a Gebr. Märklin which started selling small spirit engines from 1909.

Would seem its a Bing 10-14-3 from about 1927-29...so you were right it was a bit later then my Grandfather thought. still 83 isnt a bad old age, though has seen better days the tin work is in need of repair.

I will sort out something for you all to drool over at the weekend. I have Mamod Engines but what else I have puts Mamod in the shade.

Just fired up the one Percy built, nice to have something he made.

Been thinking about buying one of these to build.

OK, confession time; I do like 'pioneer' engines, even hot fog, and have one of these kits http://www.sussexsteam.co.uk/Newcomen.html on the shelf - trying to persuade my dad to build it as he reckons he's getting too old to play with vintage 'bikes!

Aha! So it is true... Stationary Engine enthusiasts ARE frustrated Steam Fanatics!

Nick you can be forgiven, Newcomen Engines are not exactly your average Steam Device. Ever seen the one at the Black Country Museum? Fascinating to watch. I seem to remember there might be the remains of one in Devon but it was a looong time ago.

Sorry to disappoint you Steve about your little engine, but as you say a good age already. Amazing how a good design goes on and on, the engine and its fixing looks SO Mamod.

Funny, we did some work for Sussex Steam a while back, but that was full size stuff, must have diversified or there's 2 Sussex Steam's.

No disappointment, only going on what I was told as a child, my Grandfathers memory wasn't as good as it seems, Strange makes it my oldest engine...
