P*ss taking?

You mean the gentle ribbing on Sunday :-)

Compressor on the way back together as I type. Clutch basket is held onto the camshaft gear by four 5/16 BSF bolts and an 8mm dowel - all had sheared.

Now sorted, clutch basket bolted on and just about to fit the clutch/pto unit. Should be running by tonight, great relief as hand starting that PH2 compressor for air every day is getting harder as I get older!

I was knackered yesterday, brother decided that as I was available we would drag on a trolley a Rover V6 engine uphill in his garden about 50 yds, small wheels on damp grass not good, when we got to top of garden we then had to man handle it into one of his Luton bodied sheds. It will be good to go back to work tomorrow for a rest

any way I said I was sorrrrrrrry and in my defense in the words of Rolland " the purveyor of all knowledge" I would have don't it the same way!

...and you could have popped in to Tunbridge Wells to see one of your Corby kettles running too!

No question it had been done before. Fair amount of older damage generally in there and the bolt on the crank gear was stripped and sticking out half an inch!

Ignore the Michael extraction Jon, not a problem and has only taken a couple of hours to sort :-)

Having now studied the manual on this site I see PJ has a nearly sophisticated clutch; multi-plate but no torsional springs so pretty close to a dog-clutch if engaged smartly.
May I suggest that page 122 of the manual is blown up, laminated, and mounted on the wall behind the compressor.

cheers
Roland

Yep, 4 off 5/16" cap head screws and an 8mm dowel are all that sits between the engine and compressor.

From now on compressor needs to be unloaded properly before engaging clutch - as it should have been and I plead guilty on that one as well :-(

I think that if you check back through your emails, you will find that I also responded to the "training day" suggestion :) still waiting to hear when you are going to run one.

Quite correct, you did.
.........

OK, I'll email Ian and Huw then!

.........

Any suggestions as to how we pick a weekend that will suit a number of people. Need to have several people to make it practical.

Gentlemen,

Well Saturday's back around again, doesn't time fly, and its back to the tin work repair again. Hopefully my Brother and I will have a nice easy time finish welding the boot floor into place plus a heavy dose of black Hammerite paint inside the boot and a good dosing of black mastic on the outside, then I need to change a very annoying starter motor with an intermittent fault, £200 worth of tyres on the back and then its MOT time. All the joys of owning and running a classic car

Gentlemen,

Due to a dimentional cock up we had to make a load of plates to fill a gap tthe width of the boot.

Image

The above picture shows one of the plates sitting on our home made former, the raised area at the back is for another size.

Image

This picture shows all of the plates welded in place alternate ways up to follow the shape of the floor.
We had a stop when we ran out of gas.

The engine in Your brother's Trialer will be the Honda built 2.7 V6 as fitted to the Rover 827, Yes??? My
ex brother-in-law had a "Police-Spec" 827, that engine is virtually bomb proof. He used to thrash it and
it just kept on going!!
