I am looking for more information about the engine dealer brass plate on my Appletop 4HP, No 65314, 850Rpm, 1933
    It mentioned:

    Workman Reed & Co Ltd.
    Beacon Works
    Hewish Bristol

I looked on the internet but I only found a picture of a truck of this company.

Hope someone can tell me more about it because I would like to know more of the history of the engine, or maybe this company has some records of it?

The only info I have about one of the owners of the engine is it comes from Yorkshire near Brambilly, near Rotham.

Looking forward to receive some info.

    Thank you,

Sadly Beacon went out of business, in the 70s I think. I do not know if any of their records survive. They were major Petter agents for many years and as the van picture shows they operated a sizeable service operation. After WW2 they made a wide range of lighting and other plant under the Beacon name. These used engines from Petters and Ruston.
I doubt they sold your engine in Yorkshire but we will see when I index the engine in a day or two.

edit; The records for that engine are absent. Either lost or more likely mis-filed. They may turn up when all 350,000 images have been indexed, and that could be years away without more volunteers.
