    Gentlemen

Does anyone fancy having a go at a line up of Lister H to R type engines before the centenary year is over?

Remember the first engine was built May so we could stretch it into next year.

I gather the last such line up was done at least 10 years ago at Lamport Hall Rally?

    Over to you.

Shouldn't be too difficult... I think Gary M should just about be able to manage that on his own! :)

How far do you go though? - there are lots of variants: H, J, JH, TJ, K, L, LH, TL, M, MH, N, P, Q, R?

    Regards

There is a hopper cooled variant of every engine in the range.

Just getting H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q & R in a line would be a sight. I have seen them all at Gary's but its just not the smae when they are tucked away in a shed.

I know some members are having there own crank ups towards x mas maybe they would hold it then.

    Just an idea

Before we get lost in how many variants there might be, I will expand my thoughts.

The basic idea is for a line up of 9 engines H - R Type all running and as close to original spec as possible (restored or working clothes).

The venue needs to be in an accessable place for most people so the Midlands seems a logical choice for this. However to make it really special how about Dursley? This would surely be the Holy Grail for Listerphiles.

If its to be held during the closed season the venue ideally needs to be hard standing (not everyone likes to be towed out of a muddy field), perhaps even an open sided building to offer some protection from the weather. If it was possible to use the factory at Dursley, perhaps a car park would be available during the Winter or Easter breaks?

To ensure a complete line up you would need to allow for more than one of each type, perhaps say upto a maximum of 5. Each engine would then be allocated say 1/2 hour in the line up. Variations and additions like hopper cooling, twins etc could then be added during the day so the line would continually change giving everyone some unique photo opportunities.

Definitely No public so we could dispense with ropes hopefully.

Publicity would need to include forums, SE mag and maybe Old Glory to ensure we get as many interested people there as possible both exhibitors and visitors.

Lastly I think this event wants to be something for the movement to be proud of, so a certain vetting of potential engines would be necessary.

It sounds like a good idea, I'll watch with interest.
We can provide a couple of engines if needed.
I have access to the field that we were going to do our crank up at if nothing else comes up, it's not exactly the midlands but it's close. The only worry would be during the winter it could be damp under foot.

    Cheers Gary

Obviously hard standing here at the museum but we are not exactly central. Welcome to use if you want though.

We have a small event running on December 12th to celebrate the birthday of the Proteus.

Sorry Folks bout the last posting - Really hacked after SEM's reply.

It looks like it will have to be a small get together. DWE showed an interest so I think it would be worthwhile having a go. Probably being most reliant on Gazmill to fill the gaps, think it would only be fair to do it close by (thats if your interested Gary and Steve).

A date and venue needs to be fixed so we can get recruiting engines.

    Ideas please.... :?:

We will be interested in taking it up if there's interest out there for such an event, we have a field that we can use but there are several quarry's around this area with hard standing that may be a possibility to use.
I think we'd be best off setting a date in April as there are not many other event's on at this time of year and if my memory serves we've had fine weather for most of April for the last couple of years, and it usually run's out just in time for our rally on Mayday at acton scott  so we might be in with a chance.
    Is anyone interested ?

    Cheers Gary..

Apart from the Easter Crankup on the 4th/5th you mean :)

I thought the idea was to have something this year for the Centenary?

I was thinking that if the first engine was produced in May it's still in the first year? it might be cheating a little but it's going to be against us to do anything between now and new year due to the weather.
I'm not fussed about sitting out in a field in Nov-Dec but others might not be a enthusiastic or daft as me :)

    Cheers Gary..

We've decided to have a get together on December the 30th to finish off the centenery year in the field behind my house!. We are going to line our Listers up for the day!. Not all are runners but we'll definatly have the R, Q, P, N, M, and J running! hopefully the H, TL and ball top L too and maybe the K at a push will be runable on the day.
Gaz is bringing his TL along and a few others are bringing engine's. It's a private event but any forum members are welcome! bring yourselves along and even better bring an engine along with you. let me know if your coming so i have some idea of numbers and I can give you details!
I'm hoping for a dry day but we have a tractor if needed! A few camping spaces are avalible for the brave too

    Cheers Gary..

How come A's, B's, D's, etc are excluded ? There's not some snobbery going on here is there ?!

If he's lucky I may let Gaz have his H for the event !!
