Scammell air cooled engine

    I have recently acquired an air cooled single cylinder Scammell stationary engine fitted with a kick start. I know nothing about them and have had no success trolling the webb etc. If anyone could provide me with any information (timing, tappet clearances etc) or any references I would be most grateful.

    Scammell engine

    I think you may have a Scammell lightweight fire pump engine, has it still got the pump? Usually mounted in a sort of wheel barrow type frame or sometimes on a sled type frame.
    Assuming the magneto is OK points should open with piston 3/32" BTDC or 19 deg. on crank.
    Valve tappet clearances are both 0.013" to 0.018" (Cold).

    I have a scammel fire pump. I also have associated manual and other items sold with the pump

    Mine was used at Rolls Royce Hucknall as a standby pump.
