There are two major "Crankup" events at the beginning and end of the season plus a number of steaming days every month.
There is always something running when open but for special events the steam halls will be running, dates below.
Engines are running whenever the museum is open:-

| First event of the year, as many engines as we can get running that weekend, paddle steamer and triples running. Limited steam on the Sat as we bring everything up. | |
| 2nd - 4th May | Early May Bank Holiday |
| All engines running, steam and diesel Steam from midday on the 2nd. | |
| 23rd - 25th May | Spring Bank Holiday |
| All engines running, steam and diesel Steam from midday on the 23rd. | |
| 27th - 28th June | Steaming event |
| Good selection of steam and i/c engines running both days | |
| 25th - 26th July | Steaming event |
| Good selection of steam and i/c engines running both days | |
| 29th - 31sth August | Summer Bank Holiday |
| All engines running, steam and diesel Steam from midday on the 29th. | |
| 10th - 11th October | End of Season Crankup |
| As many engines running as we can manage for the two days, paddle steamer and Willans running | |
| 25th October | Last Night at the Museum |
| 6:00pm to 9:00pm No admission charges The only evening event of the year, always well attended and a really enjoyable evening with steam and i/c engines in operation |
