There are two major "Crankup" events at the beginning and end of the season plus a number of steaming days every month.

There is always something running when open, but for special events the steam halls will be running. Dates and details are listed below.

Engines are running whenever the museum is open:

2026/2027 Special Events (Steaming)

Dates	Event & Description
10th - 11th October 2026	End of Season Crankup 2026 As many engines running as possible across both days, featuring the new steam hall.
25th October 2026	Last Night at the Museum 2026 18:00 to 21:00 — No admission charges! The only evening event of the year! A highly popular, atmosphere-filled evening with steam and IC engines operating after dark.
27th - 29th March	Easter Crankup First event of the year! As many engines running as possible, including the paddle steamer and triples.
1st - 3rd May 2027	Early May Bank Holiday 2027 All engines running (steam and diesel). Steam operational from midday on the 1st.
29th - 31st May 2027	Spring Bank Holiday 2027 All engines running (steam and diesel). Steam operational from midday on the 29th.
26th - 27th June 2027	Steaming Event Good selection of steam and internal combustion engines running both days.
24th - 25th July 2027	Steaming Event Good selection of steam and internal combustion engines running both days.
28th - 30th August 2027	Summer Bank Holiday All engines running (steam and diesel). Steam operational from midday on the 29th.
9th - 10th October 2027	End of Season Crankup 2027 As many engines running as possible across both days, featuring the paddle steamer and Willans engine.
31st October 2027	Last Night at the Museum 2027 18:00 to 21:00 — No admission charges! The only evening event of the year! A highly popular, atmosphere-filled evening with steam and IC engines operating after dark.
